Chaukhat (PART 1)

Usually used as the main entry way into homes and important public places, these door frames or chaukhats were traditionally heavily ornate, depending on the status of the person who was getting them made. Made in the 1960s, this chaukhat shows spectacular woodwork in the Saharanpur style of carving. The additional intricate sculpting on cement points to the significance of this important spiritual place.
