Lota

The lota is a multipurpose vessel in India, and may be with or without a spout. It is mostly made of brass or copper, and is used in homes and in temples, often for religious rituals. The material from which it is made usually gives an indication of what can be stored in it. For instance, copper lotas are used for water as drinking water from a copper vessel is said to have many health benefits. However, it is believed that milk becomes poisonous if stored in a copper utensil.

This lota has been in the contributor's family for years and has been used for various religious purposes.
