Paan Daan

Paan daan, also known as betel case, is a container used for storing paan. Paan daan is used throughout South Asia, especially in India. The silverware was widely used in the 19th century, especially during the reign of the last ruler of Oudh, Wajid Ali Shah.

This paan daan has been made by craftsmen who were highly skilled at the 'Ganga-Jamuni' metalwork technique. This piece has been made with gold and silver inlays and overlays. It has two compartments, one for storing paan and the other for various other items such as lime and roasted fennel. It is a family heirloom.
