Indian Passport (Pre Independence)

The use of passports for people of Indian origin was introduced during the British Raj after the First World War. The Indian Passport Act of 1920 required the use of passports for travel and the title of the state used in the passport was the 'Indian Empire' which covered all of India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Burma.

This particular document belongs to the fifth generation up in the Sawhney family and is about 90 years old.
