Chandoa Sahib (canopy)

A Chandoa Sahib, also known as Chandani is an important element used to worship Guru Nanak, the founder of Sikhism. It is a canopy that is placed above the Guru Granth Sahib Ji, the religious scripture of Sikhism, which is kept on a raised platform. The canopy is made of velvet with intricate zardozi or dabka embroidery.

This rare and antique Chandoa Sahib has been with the family for many generations. It has zardozi embroidery, which was done by a family of artisans settled in the city of Amritsar since the Mughal era.
