Damua/Damau/Damama

A small nagara (drum with a semi oval shape), the body of the Damua is made of brass or copper. The playing surface is crafted using cured goat-skin. The Damua is played using two small sticks, creating a rhythmic staccato beat. The small size and the weight of the instrument allows the musician to either hang it around their neck, or to sit and play it. It is used to accompany other instruments, such as the Ransingha, Turhi, Hurka, Dhol, Mashakbeen (bagpipes), during fairs and festivals.
