Coffee Filter (with Davara Set)

Filter coffee is a speciality beverage, prevalent in South Indian households, prepared by mixing milk with the coffee essence or 'decoction' (sugar as needed). A special filter is used for 'filtering' (extracting) the coffee essence (decoction) from finely ground coffee beans. This utensil consists of 3 parts, one where the coffee powder is filled, and boiling water is poured, the second part where the decoction is collected, and a crucial third member called 'kodai', literally meaning umbrella in Tamil, which is essential in slowing down the process of water dripping through the coffee grounds, making the decoction strong and more flavourful.

Further, filter coffee is usually served in a typical cup set, called the Davara or Tumbler set. This particular duo makes it possible for the patrons to aerate and froth the beverage, at the same time maintaining its warmth.

Both the utensils are traditionally made from brass. However, the ones shown here are made of stainless steel.
