Zari Craft

One of the most ancient forms of handicrafts in India, Zari embroidery is believed to have been introduced by the Persians in the Rigveda period. This heritage craft is passed down through generations and was initially associated only with the elite class or with royalty. The traditional craft involves fine threads of gold or silver woven in brocade or jacquard patterns. The intricate threadwork and gorgeous embellishments require special care for the preservation of a Zari saree.

This beautiful saree was passed down to the contributor's mother-in-law at her wedding.
