Tulsi Vivah

Tulsi Vivah is a festival observed by Hindus, it can be understood as the marriage ceremony of 'Tulsi', the Holy Basil plant, an incarnation of Goddess Lakshmi, with the Shaligram or fossilized shell which is considered an iconic symbol of Lord Vishnu. The ceremony symbolizes the end of monsoon and commencement of the wedding season in the Hindu calendar.

The ceremony starts late in the evening with the recital of a legendary mythological tale of love and separation, as a ritual. Along with common Hindu rituals like observing fast, offering sweets, and chanting holy mantras, the most fascinating is of the plant embellished with ornaments like a nose ring, bindi, and a bridal cloth. The celebration of Tulsi Vivah is believed to bring fortune, prosperity, and good health to the family. The Tulsi plant has a combined significance of spiritual purity and medicinal properties.
