Shankha Or Conch Shell

The conch shell is a sacred natural wonder. It is a significant article of prayer in Hinduism and Buddhism. Popularly believed to have emerged from the Samudra Manthan or Churning of the Ocean, the shankha is mentioned in the Vedas and several other holy texts. The blowing of a conch shell produces the sound of the divine syllable 'Om', which purifies the environment from all evil and negative energies. All religious ceremonies start and end with the blowing of the shankha.

A serene sound of the ocean can be heard from the conch shell, the cosmic energy of the earth trapped inside it produces the vibrations which are magnified by its structure. It is a manifestation of the Golden Ratio and the Fibonacci sequence. The scientific community also recognizes its power in increasing the positive psychological vibrations in individuals.

While it requires a certain lung capacity to blow the shankha, its religious significance makes it a vital part of an Indian household.
