The Sindoor Tradition

The Sindoor or red vermilion powder is a sacred part of a Hindu bride's trousseau. The tradition of wearing sindoor on the forehead is more than 5000 years old, with evidence in the Indus Valley Civilization. Sindoor application is considered auspicious as it is believed to be the symbol of the female energy of Goddess Parvati. Lately, this practice has also been associated for stimulating good health and physical well-being of the woman who wears it.
