Stone Cookware And Crockery

Many years back, soapstone cookware was used abundantly in southern parts of India. Known as Kalchatti, soapstone is hand carved and then made into versatile kitchen utensils of various shapes and sizes for cooking, serving and storing. The colour of these vessels varies from lighter to darker shades of gray, brown, black and white. The earliest use of these kinds of utensils can be dated back to the Indus valley civilization.

These soapstone plates and glass are more than a 100 years old and belonged to the great-grandfather of the contributor.
