Smoke Pipes

Smoke pipes were introduced in India by the British, who in turn brought this culture of tobacco smoking from Native American cultures and African cultures. Smoke pipes were used for smoking tobacco or for inhaling medicinal herbs on occasion. Now, the use of smoke pipes has been banned in many areas.

These images show small smoke pipes, around 50-60 years old, that were used for smoking milder forms of tobacco. They are made from wood and are preserved in the family of the contributor as heirloom pieces.
