Kashmiri Embroidered Shawl

Kashida embroidery is the traditional embroidery art work of Kashmir known to have originated in Kashmir during the Mughal period. This is a Kashmiri embroidered shawl and this particular kind is known as 'Aari' work. This intricate and exquisite work is mainly created in fine concentric rings of chain stitch. This needle work is done with the help of crewels using different kinds of yarn of many bright colours on textiles and clothes like shawls, jackets, cardigans etc. Aari work mostly includes elaborate floral motifs.

This shawl was brought from Kashmir and has been used by two generations in the family.
