The basic structure of Yakshagana consists of a Bhagvata, supported by the sounds of the Maddale and the Chenda. There are two styles. The southern style called Tenku Tittu is full of colour, dance and vibrant music, and is perfect for rural folk. The Northern style called Badagu Tittu has less elaborate costumes, less colour, but more dance. This style appeals more to an urban audience. Music, dance, costumes, accompanied by a combination of extempore dialogue, make this a unique art form.
