Description
Traditional dance Niitin being performed by the women of Nyishi tribe as a part of the INTACH-AITS (Rajiv Gandhi University) workshop. The Nyishi community is the largest ethnic group in Arunachal Pradesh. The Nyishi are agriculturalists who practice jhum, a form of shifting cultivation. The Nyishi women here are seen wearing a mantle of plain cloth with a band tied at the waist. A girdle consisting of metal disks, beads and cane garters is also worn at the waist. The hair is adorned with beads. Other ornaments include multi-colored bead necklaces, brass chains, metal bells, huge brass or silver earrings and heavy bracelets of various metals.
