Allahabad (Prayagraj), Uttar Pradesh

Description
The akhadas are religious groups that have now forged themselves into an organisational framework aimed at protecting the Hindu faith against foreign influences. There are numerous akhadas, founded by the disciples of the existing akhadas, that are usually loosely or directly aligned under one of the existing akhada lineage. The Akhil Bharatiya Akhara Parishad (ABAP), founded in 1954, is the apex organisation of 13 akhadas of Hindu sants (saints) and sadhus (ascetics) representing the largest followership in India. These akhadas are entitled to the special privilege of the shahi snaan at Kumbh Mela.
