Description
The University of Allahabad is a prestigious entity in the city of Prayagraj (Allahabad). The University was built by the British during the period of colonialism to meet the needs of the large Anglo-Indian community that resided in the city. Many prominent writers like Firaq Gorakhpuri and Harivansh Rai Bachchan served as professors of English at the University. The University also boasts of having the oldest Department of Urdu in India which was set up in 1924.
