Namami gange - clean ganga

ICH Research & Documentation »

Description
Kumbh Mela, being the largest religious gathering in the world, attracts over 120 million tourists to the city of Prayagraj (Allahabad) for the holy dip. Along with such tourists comes a tremendous amount of litter and pollution to the already polluted river Ganga. To combat this issue and clean the holy river, the government has launched a conservation mission called the Namami Ganga Programme in 2014. It not only aims to clean the river but also hopes to rejuvenate the depleted resources that were previously available in the water body. The entire city of Prayagraj (Allahabad) witnesses the program with its ever-present blue and yellow logo on various platforms like the Ghats, bins, and monuments.
