Description
The Kumbh Mela is the largest religious gathering in the world. It attracts over 120 million tourists to the city of Prayagraj (Allahabad) for the holy dip. The festival hosts of many facets ranging from religious customs like the Ganga arti and the snaan to tradition artforms like the one seen in the picture. The main deity of the festival is seen as mother Ganga but various sects worship other hindu deities like Lord Shiva, Lord Rama, Lord Hanuman, etc. Just like the Triveni Sangam (the holy confluence of river Ganga, Yamuna and the mythical Saraswati), the Kumbh is seen as a sangam of people in terms of class, nationality, etc. The Kumbh Mela is organized at four different locations i.e. the Prayagraj Kumbh Mela, Haridwar Kumbh Mela, the Nashik-Trimbakeshwar Simhastha, and Ujjain Simhastha. The Prayagraj Kumbh mela offers its uniqueness with respect to hosting the much revered Triveni Sangam.
