A man after holy snaan
Allahabad (Prayagraj), Uttar Pradesh
Description
The Kumbh Mela commemorates the holiest time of the year, by the positioning of the Sun, the Moon, and Jupiter. The most significant ritual of the Kumbh Mela is the snaan or holy bath, performed by millions at the Triveni Sangam, where the rivers Ganga, Yamuna, and the mythical Saraswati meet. This ritual requires the pilgrim to take a complete dip in the holy waters in the belief that this will rid them of their sins and help attain liberation from the cycle of rebirth. The river Ganga witnesses millions of devotees arriving here every year, with the wish to cleanse past sins.
